Dear readers,
today I was supposed to hold a presentation in Canada to introduce our machines. Title is/was “Decisions under Uncertainty and the Solutions of Gustav Obermeyer”. Sounds boring and when kept like the usual presentations for machinery it would be. You all experienced at least once that a woman/guy talks how wonderful their machines are and what you can do with them be switching that button or turning this screw. And what amazing references they have… than it would have any meaning that a product is purchased by everybody (do you REALLY think that Windows is a good product?). And slowly but surely you fell asleep…..
Ok to ease the topic a little bit I included some stories, quite funny, with some pictures of women. Not the kind of pictures you find in a trivial calendar like “Pirelli”. I do not like to “use” the beauty of women only as decoration like in trade fairs for cars (I poke fun of that in a former calendar of mine). No, each photo has its own story, funny, not taken so seriously (see below).
The end of the story? Well the lawyers advised not to show those pictures because of “sexual harassment”. They feared legal actions because of that.
I decided not to hold the presentation at all. My company is situated in the former GDR. And we knew what is meant by censorship. And we are very sensitive to censorship.
In the former GDR it was an open censorship. Wrong but everybody knew why. It was because the ruling class want to keep the control in the name of “the working class”, “socialism” and so on.
The censorship nowadays is more subtile but not less dangerous. It is done in the name of “humanity”, of “political correctness”", in the name of “harmony”, not to do harm on anybody. No, it is not less but more dangerous. I do not fear a future like Orwell’s “Big Brother”. I am afraid of a future like “Brave New World” written by Aldous Huxley. Everything should be harmonic, the new soma is “political correctness”. You may think what you want as long as it is not wrong. Let us be vigilant! We must never accept censorship in the name of whatsoever…
Yours TWR
